SCARF Refugee Support

SCARF Refugee Support and MCCI joined forces in October 2021 to provide even greater support for culturally diverse communities in the Illawarra.

Founded by Sharyn and Kel McKenzie in 2005, SCARF helps humanitarian refugee entrants in the Illawarra build a sense of belonging and navigate the challenges of starting a new life in Australia. By creating connections and generating opportunities across core programs, SCARF helps individuals and families to establish a sense of belonging, experience social and economic inclusion and access the tools for self-empowerment and independence. More than 2100 refugees from 18 different countries of origin have benefited from SCARF’s services. For more information, go to SCARF’s website

MCCI and SCARF have a well-established relationship after years of collaborative works, including Refugee Week events and Lead the Way.
