COVID Warriors

COVID Warriors is a partnership between Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District / M-Health AND MCCI working in collaboration with local high schools. The program provides a forum for Q&A and hands on experiences to increase knowledge on public health protocols around COVID, understanding where to access support and share their knowledge with their communities

In particular, the workshops

  • Increase health literacy and preventative behaviours around the spread of Coronavirus amongst multicultural communities in the Illawarra
  • Increase the number of families accessing testing

GROW

GROW is a program for young women aged 14 years and older aimed at promoting self-care and wellbeing and increased access to support services and community networks. The sessions will be facilitated by Port Kembla Youth Project, Multicultural Communities Council of Illawarra and NSW Health.

There were huge benefits in a range of domains. Not only in the information it provided but in giving the girls confidence to access support. They were highly appreciative and grateful for the opportunity

Preventure

Preventure workshops are designed to help students learn useful coping skills, set long term goals and channel their personality towards achieving them. It is an evidence-based prevention program that uses personality targeted interventions to promote mental health and delay substance use among teens.

MCCI works in collaboration with the Illawarra Shoalhaven LHD Drug And Alcohol team to deliver the programs in local high schools.

7 tips for Wellbeing

A health promotion program that aims to increase the emotional and wellbeing literacy of young people. The program is a collaboration between headspace Wollongong and MCCI and works with young people to develop resources for culturally diverse youth that are youth centred, culturally relevant and appropriate for youth and their families.
