Social Groups

MCCI's Social Groups meet weekly to support you to maintain your independence, share your culture and language and catch up regularly with friends.

Held at locations across the Illawarra, the groups provide morning tea, a nutritious two course lunch, and include a wide variety of lifestyle, and health and wellbeing activities put together from the group's preferences. This includes bingo, cards, guest speakers, dancing, computer lessons, Tai Chi,  gardening and lots more.

All our groups are supported by qualified and trained workers many of whom are billingual.

Groups also go on regular outings and excursions. Recent excursions have included:

  • Shoalhaven Zoo
  • Ten pin bowling
  • Jervis Bay
  • Nan Tien Temple
  • Wollongong Botanic Gardens
  • Sea Cliff Bridge walk and Stanwell Park
  • Refugee Week Dinner

Our current groups include both ethno- specific  and multicultural groups. Our ethno specific groups are:

  • Baltic States and Eastern European
  • Burmese
  • Croatian 
  • Dutch 
  • Greek 
  • Middle Eastern 
  • Portuguese 
  • Serbian 
  • Turkish 

MCCI also runs two groups each week for clients with dementia on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Transport

Our Social Groups provide door-to-door transport for those who need it for a small additional cost.
