Multicultural Youth Development Project

The MCCI's Multicultural Youth Development Project (MYDP) assists and supports socially isolated and disadvantaged young people (12-24 years) from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds. The activities and programs are designed to empower young people to participate in all aspects of social and community life, making them valued and active members in the community. The program delivers a variety of activities including; sport clinics, art workshops and participation in local festivals and events.

The project is funded by the NSW Department of Family and Community Services.

Activities and programs of the MYDP includes:

  • Illawarra Multicultural Youth Conference
  • Casual Edge Employment program
  • Cultural Magazine Project
  • Special events including;  Refugee Week, Harmony Day and Youth Week
  • Community Garden project
  • Multicultural Art Sessions
  • MCCI Intergenerational Multicultural Healthy Cook-Off
  • Sports Clinics
  • Multicultural Water Safety and CPR Sessions.

The MYDP also provides:

  • Facilitation of the Illawarra Multicultural Youth Network
  • Cultural awareness training and education
  • Information sessions on various topics pertaining to multicultural affairs
  • Information and referral to CALD specific and mainstream services
  • Individual and group mentoring
  • Advocacy and lobbying on behalf of CALD young people
  • Research and community consultation
  • Cultural expertise to the sector.
