The Opportunity

Join the growing team at MCCI as a Social Group Facilitator and work collaboratively to deliver face-to-face culturally appropriate activities to our clients.

In this role you will be facilitating group activities which include a balanced program of social, physical and cultural activities and information sessions to older people from a range of cultural backgrounds.

This is a rewarding hands-on role where you have the opportunity to build meaningful connections with clients and encourage group interaction and engagement to support health and wellbeing outcomes.

About You

You will have a passion for working with the elderly and experience and understanding of working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities. Fluency in a second language is highly regarded.

  • Proven experience in organising and delivering group activities that meet client needs.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
  • IT literacy including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Certificate III (as a minimum) in Individual Support, Aged Care, Community Services or similar or extensive relevant experience.
  • Current Senior First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain.
  • Comprehensively insured motor vehicle and valid driver’s licence.
  • COVID-19 Vaccinations.

We have an exciting full time Project Officer role focusing on  mental health awareness and access for refugee communities in the Illawarra.

About MCCI – SCARF

Multicultural Communities Council Illawarra SCARF team provides refugee support by creating connections and generating opportunities that build a sense of belonging; promote social and economic inclusion; and empower individuals and families to lead independent lives.

Recognising that settlement in a new country is a long and difficult journey with many hurdles to overcome, the Mental Health Project has been funded by the Illawarra-Southeast Primary Health Network to support mental health awareness and access for refugee communities in the Illawarra. The project is a COVID-19 pandemic support initiative with a limited timeframe to June 2022.

The Role:

To be successful in the role you will need:

  • prior project management experience in a community development setting,
  • a working knowledge of the mental health support systems
  • a good understanding of the migration experience of people from refugee backgrounds
  • great communication skills, and an ability to work as a member of a team.
  • passion and commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences

The Project:

 The role will oversee the project, which includes

  • developing & implementing community-based activities to promote mental health awareness & referral pathways for people from refugee backgrounds
  • assisting SCARF’s community mobilisers with information, support and referral pathways to assist them to engage with community members who may need mental health services
  • organising external Accidental Counselling training sessions with MCCI & SCARF volunteers and staff
  • liaising with SCARF’s team to raise awareness of the initiative through existing programs
  • maintaining records of activities undertaken, program participation, and working with the SCARF Manager to monitor, report on, and evaluate the program for the PHN funding body

Must Haves:

  • Willingness to undertake Police check
  • Fully vaccinated against COVID 19

About the role:

We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate and energetic People & Culture Officer to join our team in this dynamic role with plenty of variety and learning opportunities. With offices across the Illawarra and ACT, you will be exposed to all facets of the employee life cycle.  Your key duties will include:

  • Coordinating end-to-end recruitment activities including advertisements, shortlisting, interviewing and preparation of offers. 
  • Coordination of induction and the on-boarding and off-boarding process.
  • Maintaining various employee records and tracking systems including preparing contract variations.
  • Performing administrative & coordination activities across HR as required.
  • Supporting implementation of projects and process improvements.
  • Respond to HR general enquires.

About you:

The skills and experience to succeed in this role:

  • Tertiary qualification in Human Resource or similar
  • At least 2 years’ experience in generalist HR role with focus on talent acquisition and recruitment
  • Experience recruiting hard to fill positions highly advantageous
  • Previous experience working in a culturally and linguistically diverse work force
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, relationship management and refined communication skills
  • High level skills in Microsoft office including Excel to analyse workforce data and experience working with HR systems
  • Demonstrated ability to be highly organised, effectively manage competing priorities, and to use own initiative and judgement
  • A can-do, positive and team-oriented attitude
  • Ability to work in an extremely fast paced, energetic and flexible environment

The Company 

MCCI has been supporting multicultural communities for over 45 years.  Due to continued growth and internal promotion, this role is available in the ACT.

About the Role

This role is pivotal to the organisation as an office allrounder, providing administrative assistance to our front-line teams.  You will be the first point of contact for clients, volunteers, staff and other stakeholders.   A typical day includes responding to incoming enquires over the phone, face-to-face, meeting and greeting clients and community groups, implementing procedures for fleet and facilities management and supporting community-based activities.  In return the role offers the opportunity to be a part of a fantastic, diverse and dynamic team making a positive impact on the local community and opportunities for career development.

About You

To be successful in this role you must have:

  • Minimum 12 months’ experience in similar role
  • Commitment to exceptional customer service
  • Strong time management skills and ability to multi-task
  • A passion for working with CALD communities
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and databases
  • Valid Police check, WWVP Card and eligibility to work in Australia

  • Have experience in running group activities
  • Be an excellent communicator

  • Food Preparation Certificate or willingness to obtain

About You

As the first point of contact for clients, you will possess:

  • Preferred experience in providing quality care in the community and assisting people to live as independently as possible.
  • Experience and understanding of working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
  • Understanding of the aged care legislation, codes of practice, WH&S and industry standards in the provision of home care services.
  • Certificate III in Aged Care, Disability, Individual Support, Community Services or Community Welfare or willingness to obtain.
  • Flexibility and availability for work.
  • Current Senior First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
  • Own comprehensively insured motor vehicle.
  • Fluency in a second language (other than English) is highly regarded.
